Wednesday, we have to check out by noon but our bus back to New York is not until 5.15 pm. We pack and leave our bags in the hotel and head out.
First stop is the National Museum of the American Indian. The building itself is gorgeous. It reminds me of the Guggenheim in NYC and unlike the Hirshhorn, this one is as beautiful as the Guggenheim. It is circular and very well set out. The exhibits are displayed very well also.

We move onto the National Air and Space Museum. It is amazing. We take a tour with a wonderful woman who obviously loves airplanes. We learn lots and then move onto "space". We see the Apollo spaceships. Apollo 11 is the one that carried Buzz Aldrin, Neil Armstrong and Michael Collins on their historic mission to the moon in July 1969.

We leave the museums behind and start to walk down the Mall. We really want to get closer to the Lincoln Memorial. It is at the opposite end of the Mall. The line up is the Capitol Building, the Washington Monument, the World War 2 Memorial and finally the Lincoln Memorial with a couple of reflecting pools in between.

It really is a beautiful walk but we are running out of time. We get to the Lincoln Memorial and it really is spectacular. It might be my favorite monument here.

We get a cab back to the hotel and pick up our luggage and head back to Union Station where we get the bus back to NYC. We arrive in Manhattan around 10.30 pm and get a cab back to our apartment.
It is good to be home although at the moment I am not quite sure where home is. I guess home is where Terry is. So I am home.
Till tomorrow.
Maggie, I thoroughly enjoy your blog and photos. I've not taken time to comment, even though I've thought often of it. Thank you for thinking of me while in Little Italy. You're right, it is one of my favorite places and I'd love to go again with you. I did have a glass (2) of Chardonnay for your birthday.
ReplyDeleteLove to all of you,
