MONDAY
The girls fly home to London, Ontario. The moms move out of the loft and into a beautiful one bedroom apartment hotel at Times Square. The Aka is in the perfect location, 44th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues. Only a block from Times Square and the theatre district and surrounded by very nice restaurants. I am home most of the day catching up with the boring things like laundry and housework. I meet up with the ladies in the evening at their new home. We go next door for a drink and appys and then walk up 5th Avenue feeling like real New Yorkers.
ROCKEFELLER CENTRE
We get to Rockefeller centre - and then the rain starts. Does it ever... We need to find a restaurant for dinner and we need to get out of this rain. Jacquie knows of a restaurant that she quite likes but can't remember where it is. So ..... she bbm's (blackberry messenger) her friend in Hawaii and asks her to google the restaurant - it is only 3 blocks away so we walk to "China Grill" and have supper, it is delicious. Isn't technology great. While in the restaurant the rain changes to hail and, in fact, the picture on the front page of the newspaper the next day has a fellow shovelling the hail. The subways are flooded and the traffic is awful.
TUESDAY
One of the things we wanted to do, and in fact, I think it is something you should try to do when visiting Manhattan is to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. Unless you are going to walk both ways, I think it is best to subway to Brooklyn and walk back towards Manhattan. You have a wonderful view of the Manhattan Skyline and can, in fact, see The Statue of Liberty. Tuesday morning, this is, in fact what we did. I met the girls in their apartment and we took the subway and walked. It was lovely.

ON THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE
When we arrived in Manhattan, we were already downtown and very close to Ground Zero. We decided to visit, another thing I think you must do. We go into visit St. Paul's Chapel. I think I explained St. Paul's in a previous post but this is the place where the volunteers looked after the rescuers. At 12.30 pm every day they have a short 10 minute prayer service and we were fortunate enough to be there and attend this.
After St, Paul's we head over to the the preview site where there are pictures of 9/11 and also a model of what the site will look like - hopefully 9/11 2011. The proposed site looks beautiful. If you get the chance you should "google" it.
The weather is beautiful and we decide to walk north on Broadway. We decided that this would be a walking day and not a "retail" day. Probably should not walk up Broadway if you do not want "retail".
BOOTS
AND MORE BOOTS
These girls know how to shop for footwear. I cannot tell you how many pairs of shoes and boots are heading home to Canada. We also hope to go to a Broadway show tonight - half price tickets. It means we need to go to the TKTS site and line up. Heather and I volunteer for that. Jacquie and Verna keep on the quest for footwear.
Heather and I are very productive and we get tickets for "Billy Elliott" I know what you are thinking -"hasn't she seen it before" Yes, I have, and am very happy to attend again. We have a very nice evening and love "Billy". You have to be a little careful in New York these days as a lot of the theatres are moving to a 7 pm start and not an 8 pm start. The good news is you get out of the theatre earlier.
We pop into a lovely restaurant right across the street from the Aka and share a lovely pizza and a bottle of wine.

Today was a fabulous day - walk - shop - eat and a Broadway play - does it get any better than this?
Goodnight
