Hi Folks,
Well, yesterday started out as a lovely day, a bit humid but nice. Hannah had an interview at her school to get permission to do her internship with "All Saints" - she gets permission but has to do the necessary paperwork. I met her at the school after her interview to go shopping...... I was willing and able to spend money - no such luck. I was looking for pretty napkins - I know, all of my friends who have seen the drawer in my kitchen realize that I need cloth napkins like a hole in the head - but I love them. Anyway, we head to "Anthropologie". I bought some of my favorite napkins here before. No luck today. We then pop into "Pier One" and I find some very pretty lemon and red ones - reminds me a little of the drapes in my family room. I take 12 of them as they are only $2.95 each. I get to the check out and the computer tells the sales associate that these napkins are not for sale. "WHAT" I say. Apparently it is a quality control thing, the associate assures me that I do not want to buy substandard goods. We leave empty handed. Next we head off to "Kate Spade" - you know I am excited as I think there may be a new handbag in my future. Napkins and handbags - no accounting for taste. Again, no such luck .....
We decide to go for lunch and Hannah and I share a burger and fries at a cute little place in Soho. We know the rain is coming so we walk back to Houston and 1st and Hannah walks the couple of blocks home and I take the subway home.
Terry has already come home and gone for a run - again trying to miss the rain.
THE RAIN CAME .... boy did it ever. Hannah had a bucket and six bowls all over her very leaky bathroom, yes, that saga continues. I talk to Albeeno the superintendent who gives me the same story - he can't do anything until the Leasing company fixes the roof. Apparently my suggestion of putting a tarp over the problem area is not taken very well. I promise to call the company tomorrow.
I wake up at 3 am with the most torrential rain and worry about Hannah.
This morning we watch the news and discover a TORNADO has touched down in Brooklyn - can you believe it. A woman lost her life in Queens when a tree landed on her car. There are trees down all over the place. Even this morning - it is now almost 11 am - the folks on Staten Island are still without power.
Where we are it is a beautiful morning around 70 degrees with clear skies - it is hard to believe what went on just a few hours ago.
I have talked to Hannah this morning and the drips have stopped but only because the water is now dripping down the walls . She has gone off to school and I called the Leasing company, left a message.
To my surprise someone just called me back .... It is apparently a long process to repair a roof... This has been going on since May when the girls moved in!!!!!!!! I will keep you up to date.
I am excited to be "Skyping " with the Curvy girls and Roision today. The girls are going over to our house this morning for tea with Roision. Thanks to Roision for hosting this event. After that I get to go to Union Square and meet up with Hannah again - I feel so lucky, I get to spend this time with her.
We will try very hard to spend some money today. Filene's Basement here we come.
Hi Maggie!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog. You are quite an entertaining writer, you know. I am enjoying living vicariously through you. I worked 4 days this week and am up at 5am, so have had little time to communicate. I think of you often, though. It seems that you have quite settled into NY. Lucky girl!! I agree that you can't have enough napkins.
I just booked a flight for Becka to come home Nov. 18th again. I don't think two weeks go buy before booking a flight for her. This is what is getting us through:-)
Love to Terry, Hannah, Jonathon, and you.
